about

Lo-fi piano and fuzz spook from The Nightowl SIngs. 8 tracks of loneliness, remembrance and absence.

"These recordings were carried out between April 2012 and January 2013. Some of the songs were going to be part of the 'Tip the Maps' album but didn't seem to fit. Anyway, the track 'Tip the Maps' rejuvenated my love of playing the piano and reminded me how the tone and resonance of the instrument spooks me out a little and encourages sad and slow playing.

A bunch of songs came quickly once I started playing and they seemed to fit nicely together. I was reading an article on Emmy Hennings and another one about a guy who took battered pianos and created sound installations from their last gasps of melodic breath. These people and ideas inspired the track '1913/Dancer', and helped me create a spiritual tone and direction for the E.P.

I asked Ste and Al to contribute tracks 4 and 8 respectivley (called Lone Transmissions 1 and 2). To create these tracks they used unused parts from various Nightowl Sings recordings to create esoteric sound collages in keeping with the E.P.'s atmosphere. Thanks guys.

Enjoy the spook." - Marc Gillen.
